Italy is one of the few places in Europe that still has a living tradition of frame drum playing today. The tamburello is an amazingly versatile tambourine that is becoming more and more popular also outside of Italy. Andrea Piccioni is one of the prominent players in the international frame drum scene on framedrums in general, and especially on the tamburello. He grew up with this instrument which is very obvious in his playing and teaching. His playing style combines tradition with innovation and in his DVD "Il Tamburello Italiano", Andrea also teaches both of these aspects of the instrument. With Italian rhythms such as Pizzica and Salterello he demonstrates the original language of the drum and where the instrument is coming from. Then he progresses to the modern approach demonstrating funk, middle-eastern rhythms and indian Tihais on his signature drum. Explanations are calm and precise, with english synchronisation. I can highly recommend this DVD to anyone interested in getting to know or developing his knowledge of the Tamburello...
